Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

This course is approved by the British Psychological Society Learning Centre for the purposes of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is now recognised as one of the most effective approaches available, helping clients make lasting changes in their lives.  On our C.B.T. course we cover a number of approaches and the different therapeutic strategies that can be adopted.

Our course places particular emphasis on R.E.B.T. or Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy. REBT is widely recognised as one of the leading approaches in the field of C.B.T. therapy.

It is unique in the way that it systematically delineates the kinds of irrational thinking and beliefs that lead to emotional disturbances and provides a set of specific techniques for altering such beliefs.

Therapists and clients are impressed with its clear and rational approach to bringing about change using a set of challenges that the client understands and finds helpful.  REBT is often combined along with other interventions to produce a helpful strategy for client change.  The inclusion of CBT in a hypnotherapeutic model is now seen as an important development within the profession of hypnotherapy.

This one-day intensive is fun and informative and provides an in depth look at various CBT models and how we as therapists can include this in our client work.

There will be time to practice the techniques being learnt and opportunity to discuss how best to incorporate the techniques within your own practice.

Comprehensive course notes are available to all delegates on the course.  Set out below are some of the topics covered.

The Rewind Technique

The Rewind Technique also know as the Fast Phobia Cure or more correctly the V-K Dissociation technique is becoming widely recognised as a useful intervention for dealing with painful, stressful and traumatic experiences.

According to Webster’s Dictionary, to dissociate means “to separate into discrete units or parts”.   As the name implies, then, V-K Dissociation involves separating one’s visual experience (V) from one’s feelings or kinesthetic representational system (K).  For example, a person may separate an unpleasant emotional response from the visual stimuli that are producing those feelings.  This allows the person to replay what he or she has seen and heard without having the accompanying feelings. From this perspective, the process of dissociation is a reversal of what are known as “synesthesias” and “fuzzy applications” in NLP, which both involve the overlapping or combining of sensory representations.

Being able to separate sensory processes from one another, and thus dissociate from a stressful, painful or traumatic experience, can help a person to get some psychological distance from it, and to become better able to assess and cope with the situation.

The V-K Dissociation Process was one of the earliest therapeutic techniques developed by NLP co-founders Bandler and Grinder. Bandler and Grinder systematized the procedure in 1976, as a synthesis of hypnotic techniques used by hypnotherapist Milton H. Erickson.

On this one-day intensive training programme we look at how to select clients so that you work safely and how to adapt the technique for various client requirements.  This is rapidly becoming one of the key techniques to helping clients overcome PTSD symptoms.
Your trainer on this course is Dave Woolley.  Dave is a qualified nurse and a Master NLP Practitioner and qualified NLP trainer with the ANLP, Guild of NLP and AIP.

You can find his full C.V. HERE

All aspects of the process will be covered and comprehensive notes are provided to delegates.

The HypnoFocus Training Centre

All training takes place in our own training centre based in the small market town of Rugeley in Staffordshire WS15 2BL.  This is a superb environment in which to learn and practice. Each group of three students can have their own private practice room where they can spend time using the techniques being taught. We don’t believe in having students all working in the same room. We believe learning Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy should be fun and enjoyable. If you would like to visit us and see our training facility before joining one of our courses then please email or telephone and we will be delighted to show you around.
